Hypo-Selenium (Selenium) Dosaage 200 mcg.Size 90 tablets Ingredient Selenium 200 mcg (Yeast free selenium organically bound in Kelp) Direction Adults take 1 tablet daily or as directed by physician About Selenium An Essential Mineral, Selenium is a natural antioxidant which delays the oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids and preserves the elasticity of tissue. Selenium is required for the production of certain prostaglandins which decrease platelet aggregation. In synergy with vitamin E, selenium promotes normal growth and fertility, and improves the function of certain energy producing cells. Both selenium and vitamin E independently stimulate the formation of antibodies, proteins that act as the body's defense system. Selenium protects normal cell function by supporting the body's natural defenses and scavenging harmful free radicals. Daily intake of Selenium greatly reduce occurrence of some cancers. Scientific Studies The most important blind study on selenium and cancer was a double-blind intervention trial conducted by researchers at the University of Arizona Cancer Center.10 When all the results were tabulated, it became clear that the selenium-treated group developed almost 66% fewer prostate cancers, 50% fewer colorectal cancers, and about 40% fewer lung cancers as compared with the placebo group. (All these results were statistically significant.) Selenium-treated subjects also experienced a statistically significant (17%) decrease in overall mortality, a greater than 50% decrease in lung cancer deaths, and nearly a 50% decrease in total cancer deaths.A large-scale Chinese studies showing that giving selenium supplements to people who live in selenium-deficient areas reduces the incidence of cancer.11 Another study examined whether selenium supplements could stop the spread (metastasis) of cancer in mice. In this study, a modest dosage of supplemental selenium reduced metastasis by 57%.12 Even more significant was the decrease in the number of tumors that had spread to the lungs. References 1. Caution Selenium dosages above 850 mcg daily are known to cause selenium toxicity. Signs of selenium toxicity include depression, nervousness, emotional instability, nausea, vomiting, and in some cases loss of hair and fingernails.
