Newsletter #54 --- Male Infertility and the role of Nutrition

(For female, click Female Infertility and the role of Nutrition)

Over 15% of couples in the U.S. have difficulty conceiving a child. In about one third of these cases, it is the man that is infertile; in another third, both the male and female have fertility issues. The balance is due to female infertility.

Infertility affects one in 25 men.

Cause of male infertility

Most cases of male Infertility is due to an abnormal sperm count or low sperm motility. Low sperm count or motility dramatically reduces the chances of the sperm reaching the egg. In about 10% of the cases of low sperm count (oligospermia) the cause can be identified and treated medically. In the other 90%, the cause of low sperm count cannot be identified and is called "idiopathic oligospermia". Other causes include abnormal semen or sperm morphology.

The causes of infertility are often treatable. Nutritional and lifestyle changes increase chances for conception. Smoking, caffeine, drug and alcohol consumption, and stress are related to infertility. Reproductive organs are highly susceptible to free radical or oxidative damage from environmental toxicants (pesticides, insecticides, lead, radiation, and heavy metals) and natural aging. Often a reduction in intake of alcohol, tobacco, prescription or nonprescription drugs, or avoidance of environmental contaminants can enhance sperm production. A balanced, nutritional diet, and nutritional supplements with high antioxidant content can help reverse some of the oxidative damage from environmental toxins and natural aging.

In men, certain nutrients are essential for formation of healthy sperm.

For those male who are suffering from infertility, take the following actions.

Introducing FertilityBlend

FertilityBlend (from The Dailywellness Company) is the leading U.S. brand of dietary supplement that helps enhance both women's and men's reproductive health as an integral part of an overall healthy lifestyle.

FertilityBlend for Men is a scientifically validated herbal/nutritional blend to enhance fertility by improving sperm quality and motility (spontaneous motion). FertilityBlend for Women was developed based on published scientific literature on nutritional components that benefit fertility and have a safe history of usage. All ingredients have been scientifically studied to determine their individual benefits. The formulas have showed very promising results in ongoing clinical studies.

Ingredient (Serving size 2 capsules) of FertilityBlend for Men include:

Recommended Use: take 3-4 capsules daily for the first month, followed with continued use of at lease 2 capsules daily. Use for at least 3 months before expecting an improvement in fertility health.

This premium combination of herbs, vitamins and minerals improves overall health and helps treat many of the deficiencies known to decrease fertility.

FertilityBlend for Men is not a drug. It is a daily nutritional supplement. While it is not intended for the treatment of any disease, it may be used as a "soft" approach to optimize fertility in a natural manner, as an option prior to, or instead of, "hard" options such as in vitro fertilization or fertility drugs. Nutritional supplements take a more gradual, gentle, natural approach compared to drugs. The focus with supplements is the optimization of health and wellness, rather than the treatment of disease. Drugs are used for the treatment of specific conditions, often by altering biological pathways, sometimes in a very powerful or unnatural manner, and often with undesirable side effects.

FertilityBlend for Men was developed on the basis of published scientific literature on individual nutritional components that benefit fertility. As a dietary supplement, take 3-4 capsules per day for the first month, preferably split into 2 doses to spread out absorption, followed with continued use of at least 2 capsules per day. If taking vitamins or minerals on an empty stomach bothers you, take after meals. Use for at least 3 months before expecting a significant alteration in sperm quality and fertility. As a general rule, anyone with pre-existing medical conditions or on prescription medications should consult with their doctor or pharmacist before starting a new diet or supplement. If conception is not achieved within this time, you may want to have your partner take FertilityBlend for Women. The ingredients in FertilityBlend for Men have a long history of use in humans and are not known to interact in any adverse way with other foods or drugs at the recommended dose.
