Newsletter #4 ------ Health & Nutrition for your Skin

Skin is the largest organ of your body. Skin is the body's first line of defense. It is responsible for eliminating more cellular waste than the kidney or the intestine. It is the largest immune barrier protecting your body. It is crucial to take good care of your skin. Some of the factors that can negatively affect the condition of the skin are sun, wind, airborne pollutants, free radicals and aging.

Step 1: Avoid exposing your skin to too much sun.

Overexposure lead to dryness of your skin and increase the incidence of skin cancer later in life. Wear hat, protective eyewear and apply sunscreen/sunblock. Dryness can also contribute to the breakdown of skin's elasticity, which can lead to wrinkles. Avoid exposure to harsh winter winds which have a very drying effect on skin and can lead to flaking and cracking. Airborn pollutants including tobacco smoke build up on the skin throughout the day. They can be irritating and damaging to the skin. They all can contribute to the appearance of premature aging.

Step 2: Avoid harsh products and over cleansing. Avoid synthetic personal care products.

Over cleansing with alkaline cleansers containing harsh ingredients can strip your skins' precious acid and oil mantel - leaving your skin vulnerable to chemicals, pollutants, bacteria & viruses. Synthetic cleansing detergents dry out your skin causing it to be malnourished and aged prematurely. They reduce your skin's capacity to deal with the damaging effect of dirt, dust, pollution, sun, drying wind. Synthetic cleansing detergents cause acne, dermatitis, itching, eczema, psoriasis & moles.

Step 3: Read the ingredient label of every personal care product

Avoid toxic ingredients like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Cocamide MEA, Cocamide DEA and 1,4-Dioxin(carcinogen, Formaldehyde, APE, DMDM Hydantoin, & Heavy Metal Salts. They may cause headache, dizziness, rashes, brown spots, violent coughing, vomiting, fatigue, allergy & cancer.

Step4: Take oral anti-oxidants - Alpha Lipoic Acid and CoQ10

Dr. Nicholas Perricone, a dermatologist from Yale university, is author of the New York Times best-seller "The Wrinkle Cure" - how to achieve and maintain healthy, youthful appearing skin. Dr. Perricone's primary approach to rejuvenating the skin is through a combination of proper diet, oral antioxidants and topical anti-oxidants. It is well known that aging of the skin with sagging and wrinkling is a function of inflammation and free radical damage. One can easily see that in older individuals who have been chronically exposed to the sun. Although they may be well tanned, invariably, these individuals will show excessive wrinkling and aging from free radical damage caused by the UV light of the sun.

To prevent free radical damage, Dr. Perricone recommends 2 powerful oral anti-oxidants - Alpha Lipoic Acid and CoQ10

Alpha Lipoic Acid is a very special anti-oxidant that has both water and fat-soluble properties. Not only is it a powerful free-radical inhibitor and a wonderful nutrient for rejuvenating the skin, alpha lipoic acid can potentially function in the prevention of diabetic complications. Dr. Perricone has recommended a daily dose of 50-100 mg of alpha lipoic acid for a healthy individual. A daily dose of 300 mg to 600 mg is advised for those who would like to fight aging more aggressively or people suffering with any chronic illnesses, such as diabetes.

CoQ10 is a powerful antioxidant. Co-Q10 plays an integral role in energy production in the cell and has been shown to demonstrate benefits in heart disease, especially cardiomyopathy, diabetes, periodontal disease and even cancer. Dr. Perricone suggests a daily dose of between 50mg to 100 mg of Co-Q10 for a healthy individual. For those individuals suffering with heart disease and conditions noted above, take 200 mg to 400 mg daily.

Step 5: Take Omega 3 Essential fatty Acid and MSM

Essential fatty acids (EFAs), so called because your body cannot manufacture them -- are vital to healthy, supple, radiant skin. Eat cold-water fish for omega-3 EFAs. Due to increasing reports of harmful chemical contamination in fish, take the high quality pharmaceutical grade of Omega 3 Fatty Acid 1-2 gm daily instead.

Take MSM 1000mg three times a day with meal. MSM plus Vitamin C heal skin wound faster and make the skin appear softer, smoother and more pliable. Unsightly and painful scar have been observed to disappear over time. Acne, including the severe acne rosacea responds favorably to a diet supplemented with MSM. MSM makes your hair healthier and your nails stronger. For psoriasis, take MSM 6000-8000mg daily for 3-4 weeks. When condition improves, cut down to 4000mg per day.

Step 6: Properly nourish your skin with fine natural skin product with topical antioxidant.

Buy products which are 100% natural, organic, purest, most effective and safe for all ages, all skin types and for both men and women. They should be quick and easy to use. These products should provide "Nutrition for the Skin". They should exfoliate dead skin cells, remove dirts, oil, pollutants, make-ups and free radicals. They should provide antioxidants (Alpha Lipoic Acid, vitamin C) protection against free radical damage. They should purify, oxygenate, stimulate & revitalize sluggish skin. They should retain moisture, eliminate wastes and protect your immune defense barrier - leaving your skin clean, fresh, smooth, youthful and healthy. I recommend Alphaderma CE (10% Argireline) for anti-aging. For dry skin, apply Glycolic Body Lotion to your neck, back and body. It is both moisturizing and exfoliating.
