------ Natural approach to Stomach Ulcer
We now know that the primary cause of a stomach ulcer is a bacteria, Helicobacter pylori, a spiral shaped pathogen that nestles beneath the protective mucous membrane covering the stomach wall, and damages the cells and membrane, allowing the stomach acid to cause an ulcer.
The most common treatment today for excess stomach acid and ulcers is "histamine receptor antagonists," such as Zantac and Tagamet. They block the action of histamine on the cell sites in the stomach, reducing the amount of acid. They are effective, but can cause complications-including nausea, diarrhea, possible liver damage or hair loss, osteoporosis, depression, insomnia, and possible impotence. In addition, by reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach, you're reducing the digestive power of the stomach.
Natural approach to Ulcers
Take licorice Extract. It works to protect your gastrointestinal tract to prevent conditions like hyperacidity and acid reflux (GERD) which can lead to ulcers. It enhances normal defense mechanisms that prevent ulcer formation. It increases the number of mucosal cells, thus increasing the amount of protective mucus that covers the gastrointestinal tract cells. It also improves the quality of mucus production, seems to increase the lifespan of the intestinal cells, and enhances the microcirculation of blood through the gastrointestinal tract lining. However, the glycyrrhizin -a compound within licorice extract can cause high blood pressure cardiac arrhythmias and lower testosterone level in men. Therefore it is recommend to use Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice Extract (DGL) chewable tablets 20 minutes before each meal three times a day. Continue for 4-6 weeks. In test tubes, the flavonoids in DGL have been shown to kill Helicobacter pylori, the bacteria that causes most ulcers and stomach inflammation.
GINGER is thought to aid digestion and absorption of important food constituents and to protect and soothe the digestive system as a whole. In addition, ginger has notable antioxidant and enzyme activity. it works well as a treatment for nausea
Soothe your stomach with Aloe Vera. Aloe seems to be particularly beneficial for the gastrointestinal tract. Some claim it helps their irritable bowel symptoms and constipation. Aloe also seems to enhance the digestion and absorption of food, and reduces bacterial putrefaction in the gut. Take one capsule with a full glass of water 2-3 times a day. Alternatively, take Aloe Vera juice if you can tolerate the taste of it. Stop if developed diarrhea. Aloe Vera is not recommended during pregnancy
Get tested for Helicobacter pylori. If tested positive, the treatment course is one to two weeks with anitibiotics and acid-reducing drugs. The cure in most cases is permanent. While taking the antibiotics, I recommend you take Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice Extract (DGL) and Pro-biotic Acidophilus.
Drink two glasses of clean water when you have stomach pain, and one glass half an hour before each meal. Water works to protect the mucous lining in the stomach.
Unripe banana also has anti-ulcer effects, take extract of unripe plantain banana 150mg 4-6 times a day or the herbs slippery elm (200-mg 4-6 times a day), marshmallow root (200mg 4-6 times a day) and the juice of raw cabbage.
Be sure to eliminate gastrointestinal irritants such as tobacco, NSAIDs, coffee and alcohol.
