------ Natural approach to AllergiesAllergy involves a series of events triggering the release of histamine in your body. Conventional doctors prescribe drugs like Seldane and Hismanal to mask your symptoms but they have significant negative side effects. There are natural alternatives that can block histamine, boost your immune system and make you feel better.
First, identify the underlying cause of your allergy. The most common offenders are airborne allergens such as dander from household pets, dust, pollen, mold, smoke, synthetic perfumes and strong odors. Most long-term respiratory problems are associated with undetected food allergies as well. The culprits are dairy products, wheat, eggs, citrus, corn, peanut butter, shell fish, food additives, preservatives and dyes (Esp. tartrazine or yellow dye no.5). A modified elimination diet usually isolates the problem food. For one week, eliminate as many of these foods as you wish from your diet. Then, every other day, reintroduce one food back into your diet. A two-day wait before reintroducing the next food gives your system time to react to the allergen and cause symptoms-mucus buildup, difficulty breathing. If you do notice sensitivity to a food, omit it from your diet for another week, then reintroduce it. If adverse reactions a second time this probably means that this food should be out of your diet altogether.

Hay Fever (Allergic Rhinitis)
Butterbur Extract (Petadolex) can relieve hayfever symptoms as effectively as antihistamines.
A Swiss and German study of 330 patients reported in the August 22, 2005 online issue of the journal Phytotherapy Research found that butterbur worked as well as the antihistamine fexofenadine (Allegra) for hayfever symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, runny nose and itching. Butterbur was also effective without causing drowsiness, a common side effect of antihistamines. A smaller study reported similar results in 2002. Some were given pills containing butterbur extract, another group received fexofenadine and a third group received a placebo. The leaves and roots of butterbur contain natural chemicals called petasines, which inhibit the body's production of leukotrienes, components of allergic reactions.
In a 2-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 186 people with intermittent allergic rhinitis, use of butterbur at a dose of three standardized tablets (150mg) daily reduced allergy symptoms as compared to placebo.
Another 2-week, double-blind study of 125 individuals with hay fever compared a standardized butterbur extract against the antihistamine drug certizine (Zyrtec). According to ratings by both doctors and patients, the two treatments proved about equally effective.
