Newsletter #129 --- Curb inflammation with enzymes
Medical researchers have uncovered a disease pathway in which uncontrolled inflammation throughout the body can contribute to deadly heart disease, stroke, and other circulatory disorders. There is convincing evidence that inflammation is strongly linked to heart attacks and stroke.
Inflammation plays a major role in atherosclerosis (the build-up of fatty deposits in the lining of arteries) and heart attacks by causing the coronary arteries to constrict, spasm, and create clots. Researchers has documented that individuals with high levels of C-reactive protein have up to 6 times the likelihood of a heart attack or strokes as individuals with lower levels. C-reactive protein (CRP) is a marker of inflammation.
Inflammation is also frequently a component of pain. Inflammation is present in both acute pain from a sprained ankle and chronic back pain. Inflammation is also associated with other chronic health conditions and is the cause of the pain in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis (MS), lupus, and fibromyalgia.
Inflammation begins when white blood cells release chemicals in response to infection (virus or bacteria) or to provide protection immediately after an injury. These chemicals cause a leak of fluid into the affected tissues, resulting in swelling. Blood flow increases automatically to the area of injury or infection resulting in redness and warmth. These protective mechanism stimulate nearby nerves, which in turn causes the pain.
Over the years, a significant amount of medical research have been performed in Germany and Europe on systemic enzymes and their use for circulatory and cardiovascular health. Scientists worldwide have found that vascular and circulatory disorders respond extremely well to oral systemic enzymes. European enzyme researcher Rudolf Kunze has demonstrated that there were marked C-reactive protein reductions by administration of oral systemic enzyme.
Enzymes are protein molecules that control biochemical reactions. Enzymes are needed for each and every chemical reaction that make life possible. No vitamin, mineral or hormone can potentiate it's effects in the body without enzymes. Enzymes allow certain metabolic processes to take place that otherwise would not occur without their presence. All enzymes consist of chains of amino acids. Active enzymes play a crucial role in supporting all immune system functions. A balanced immune system is a prerequisite for good health. Scientists have identified 3000+ enzymes in the body, each with a very specific role. Most enzymes are used for the body's normal metabolic processes (digestion, breathing). Certain enzymes control the production of important hormones. Enzymes also destroy environmental toxins and free radicals that are generated from endogenous and exogenous sources.
When you are young, the body produces most of the enzymes it needs to maintain healthy joints, a strong immune system, robust circulation and overall good health. As you age, the body loses its ability to produce more efficient enzymes to keep up with the high demand of your aging heart, degenerating joints and weakening immune system. This can leave a person vulnerable to a wide range of health problems, so it helps to replace what your body is naturally losing.
Systemic enzymes can help support healthy blood flow and healthy immune system. Systemic enzymes break down certain proteins in the body, rid the blood of harmful proteins which are harmful to joints, organs and tissue. Systemic enzymes combine different enzymes which modulate the natural reactions in the body. Systemic enzymes formula combine plant-derived enzymes (Papain and Bromelain), pancreatic enzymes (Amylase, Protease, Lipase), animal-based proteolytic enzymes (trypsin and chymotrypsin), fungal-derived enzymes and Bioflavonoid Rutin. The main pancreatic enzymes are the amylases (which digest carbohydrates), proteases (which digest protein), and lipases (which digest fats). Pancreatic enzyme supplements can assist the work of our pancreas, improve digestion, reduce inflammation and prevent damage caused by autoimmune diseases. Rutin is a bioflavonoid known to strengthen the smallest blood vessels. Rutin helps to prevent the discoloration and local pain associated with injuries. Rutin prevents hemorrhage from high blood pressure.
Enzymes may only exert their effect in a certain range of pH values and temperatures. They are very sensitive and are typically destroyed to a large extent by the gastric acid within our stomachs. That is why systemic enzyme tablets must be enteric-coated in order to penetrate through the acidic environment of the stomach. It is also very important to take enzyme tablets on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes to 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals. That way, the enzymes have a better chance of absorption through the intestinal walls and ultimately into the blood stream. This ensures that the systemic effect of the enzymes unfolds.
Enzymes have been used extensively in Germany and Europe for the following conditions
1) People with pancreatic insufficiency, cystic fibrosis and malabsorption syndrome frequently require supplemental pancreatic enzymes. Those with celiac disease1 or Crohn's disease may also be deficient in pancreatic enzymes. When taken with meals, pancreatic enzymes reduce the symptoms of food sensitivity & aid digestion. Pancreatic enzymes help to relieve symptoms of gastrointestinal distress such as fullness, bloating, pain and cramping which occurs after eating.
2) Systemic enzyme acts as a natural and safe alternative to anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen. Many clinical studies of protease supplementation on skeletal muscle function following downhill running have demonstrated superior recovery of contractile function and diminished effects of delayed-onset muscle soreness when compared with the placebo group. Their results indicate that protease supplementation attenuate muscle soreness after downhill running. Protease supplementation may also facilitate muscle healing and allow for faster restoration of contractile function after intense exercise. Many people who don't take pancreatic enzyme supplements routinely find great relief from pain and inflammation that results from being a weekend warrior. Simply take the enzymes between meals until the pain and inflammation are gone.
3) Sport injury and recovery: Systemic oral enzymes have been used by some Olympic teams to reduce injuries by as much as 50% and to enhance healing after injury. Studies have shown when systemic oral enzymes given to those with sprained ankles, there was less swelling, less pain, more mobility of the ankle joint and a quicker return to normal functioning.
4) Post-surgical healing: Leading surgeons now routinely prescribe systemic oral enzymes to prevent bruising, edema and the associated pain for their post-surgical patients. When systemic oral enzymes are given preceding and following the surgical treatment of fractures, there was significant reduction in post-op swelling, pain & hospital stay. Systemic oral enzyme is also effective in reducing postoperative and post-radiatioin lymphedema.
5) Reducing the incidence of blood clots. Higher dose of oral systemic enzyme therapy proved to be very effective for patients with superficial and deep vein thrombophlebitis. The European researcher reported a substantially better therapeutic outcome with the enzyme mixture than with conventional anticoagulants and vasoactive substances. To lower traveler's risk of blood clots (Deep vein Thrombosis) on long flights, some European Airlines recommend to their passengers to take systemic oral enzymes 2 days before the flight, during and 2 days after the flight.
6) Systemic enzymes reduce the incidence of heart attacks and strokes because of its anti-thrombotic, anti-spasmodic, and anti-arrhythmic abilities. In 1988, researchers discovered that aspirin, a classic anti-inflammatory drug, significantly helped to lower heart disease risk among men and reduce risk for most types of stroke. However, Aspirin (including enteric-coated or buffered Aspirin) does have significant complications with long-term use including micro-bleeding and ulcers. There is a small but very real risk among aspirin users for hemorrhagic stroke. European researchers reported that they have had great results with the use of systemic enzymes in keeping patients alive and free from heart attacks and stroke, without the concomitant risk of ulcers and hemorrhagic stroke.
7) In treating osteoarthritis and autoimmune diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and rheumatoid arthritis, joint and muscle pain. Systemic enzymes helps to dissolve circulating immune complexes and antibodies that cause severe inflammation.. According to D.A. Lopez, M.D at the University of California at San Diego Medical School, animals suffering from this inflammatory condition, when given combination enzymes, have shown significant improvement.
8) Cancer: Numerous studies worldwide indicate that systemic oral enzymes can often be used to great advantage as adjuvant treatment to complement cancer therapeutics. The clinical experience of leading European oncologists such as Drs. Michael Schedler and Heinrich Wrba convincingly demonstrates the utility of such preparations in a wide range of cancers (multiple myeloma, breast, stomach, colon and pancreatic cancers and Lymphoma). Systemic oral enzymes not only benefit overall immunity, they help to reduce the side effects and complications of chemotherapy and radiation, thus enabling optimum dosages with minimal adverse consequences and improved therapeutic outcomes. Systemic oral Enzyme therapy in addition to conventional chemotherapy prolongs survival time, remission times, reduce recurrence and metastasis.
9) Tinnitus: Out-of-control inflammatory processes are very much to blame for a significant percentage of tinnitus cases. Drs. Michael Schedler treated thousands of his European patients with systemic oral enzymes with generally good results. Patients who had suffered for years were getting better, noise-free within three months.
10) Systemic oral enzymes reduce inflammation involved in allergies. Systemic oral enzymes alleviates the symptoms for the allergy sufferer.
Conclusions
Numerous European clinical studies have proved the safety of systemic oral enzymes.
The proteolytic enzyme papain and bromelain might increase the blood-thinning effects of anticoagulants (Blood thinners). Therefore systemic oral enzymes should not be taken by individual suffering from bleeding disorders or liver damage. Systemic oral enzymes should not be taken by individual taking anticoagulant drug such as Coumadin. Systemic oral enzymes should not be taken in combination with Aspirin.
Systemic oral enzymes should not be taken by individual who is pregnant or breast-feeding.
Systemic oral enzymes should not be taken by individual who is allergic to any of the ingredients listed on the label, specifically pineapple, papaya, rutin, trypsin or chemotrypsin.
Occasionally, you might experience diarrhea and excess gas, this can be minimized by taking smaller serving sizes more frequently throughout the day.
I recommend Catalytic Formula with Rutin as the systemic oral enzymes.
For people with pancreatic insufficiency, cystic fibrosis, malabsorption syndrome, celiac disease1 or Crohn's disease, take Bio-Zyme
with meals.
