--- Boost your HDL-Cholesterol naturally
"Heart attack" is the single largest killer in United States. Every 20 seconds, an American will suffer a heart attack. Every 34 seconds, an American will die of cardiovascular disease. 1 in every 2.6 deaths in United States is caused by cardiovascular disease.
The American Heart Association recognizes both LDL-Cholesterol (Bad Cholesterol) and HDL- Cholesterol (Good Cholesterol) as strong and independent risk factors of heart disease. However, raising good cholesterol levels is thought to provide greater protection than lowering bad cholesterol. Every 1% increase in HDL-Cholesterol decreases the risk for heart disease by 2% in men and 3% in women. A study from Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston published in August, 2003 of "The Journal of the American Society of Nephrology" showed that apparently healthy men with low HDL ("good") cholesterol, and high LDL ("bad") or cholesterol and triglycerides, have twice the normal risk of reduced kidney function. Reduced kidney function can lead to kidney failure, a chronic life-threatening condition.
The National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) guidelines
- Desirable total Cholesterol level is <200, LDL <130 and HDL>60.
- High risk individuals are those with total Cholesterol level>240, LDL>160 and HDL<40.
HDL can be further categorized into specific subtypes
- HDL2 is a larger form, produced when cholesterol carried by HDL-3 is chemically modified (esterified). It transports cholesterol to liver for processing and elimination
- HDL3 is a smaller form, synthesized by the liver and intestine. HDL-2 moves cholesterol away from the arterial wall so it may provide greater cardiovascular protection.
HDL possess antioxidant activity and it helps balancing the body's natural anti-inflammatory response, both of which are important for cardiovascular health. Its most important function is the role it plays in cholesterol transport. High levels of HDL cholesterol are associated with reduced platelet activity, another key indicator of arterial and venous health.
Boost your HDL naturally
You can raise HDL by increasing exercise and eating only good fats (monounsaturates such as olive oil and omega-3s from sources like salmon and sardines).
Eat soy protein-enriched diet which has been shown to decrease total serum cholesterol, LDL, triglyceride levels and significantly increase HDL cholesterol levels (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition February 2005).
Take the following HDL-Boosting supplements daily
Omega-3 fatty acids (Omega 3) lower triglyceride levels, increase HDL cholesterol and help minimize inflammation and blood clotting. In a study published in June 2004 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, British researchers studied a group of individuals with an increased mortality from coronary artery disease. Eighty four patients were randomly given either 4 g a day of fish oil or 4 g of olive oil daily for 12 weeks. At the end of the study, those treated with the omega-3 fish oil had a statistically significant decrease in serum triglyceride levels along with a significant increase in HDL cholesterol.
Coenzyme q-10 (CoQ10) is a fat-soluble nutrient present in the mitochondria of virtually all cells. It is an essential factor involved in cellular energy production specifically, adenosine triphosphate (ATP) synthesis. It is also a powerful free radical scavenger, clinically shown to provide protection for the inner lining of the arteries by inhibiting LDL cholesterol oxidation and increasing HDL- cholesterol levels. CoQ10 has been clinically shown to help treat and prevent Coronary arterial Disease and high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, angina and congestive heart failure (CHF). Sstatin drugs (Pravachol, Zocor, Lipitor etc.) can significantly reduce CoQ10levels in the body. CoQ10 improves the use of oxygen at the cellular level, maintains healthy blood vessels, reduces the risk of clots and plaque rupture, and supports optimal functioning of the heart muscle.
Coenzyme q-10 (CoQ10) and omega-3 fatty acids (Omega 3) work synergistically to provide enhanced protection against cardiovascular disease.
Vitamin B complex: Niacinamide increases HDL by decreasing removal of its major lipoprotein, apoAl. It is also shown to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides and raise HDL-2 levels. It can raise HDL levels as much as 20-30%. In a study published in Circulation December 2004, 167 patients with an average age of 67 and previously taking statin therapy-were randomly assigned to receive either placebo or 1,000 mg a day of extended-release niacin. After the 12-month study, those people treated with niacin increased HDL cholesterol an average 21%. B6, Folic Acid & Vitamin B12 Reduce homocysteine levels.
Calcium is an mineral that has many benefits, including raising HDL levels. In a study published in the American Journal of Medicine April 2002, 223 post-menopausal women were treated with 1g a day of calcium citrate or placebo for a year. At the end of the study, those women in the treated group had increased HDL cholesterol levels of seven percent. Take Calcium/Magnesium daily.
Magnesium: Magnesium raises HDL cholesterol, prevents heart muscle spasm, keeps blood flowing smoothly, maintains normal blood pressure and keeps the heartbeat regular. Take 400 - 800mg of magnesium daily.
Policosanol is a unique mixture of essential alcohols, including octacosanol, tetracosanol, hexacosanol and triacontanol, derived from sugar cane wax. Policosanol improves cholesterol profile by decreasing production and increasing the breakdown of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl Coenzyme A (HMG-CoA), the enzyme involved in cholesterol synthesis. It provides protection for arteries and blood vessels by inhibiting platelet aggregation. In an article published in the American Heart Journal February 2002, researchers reviewed the literature on placebo-controlled, lipid-lowering studies using policosanol which had been published in peer review journals. They reported that a dose of 10 mg to 20 mg a day of policosanol over an 8-week period lowered total cholesterol by 17-21%, lowered LDL cholesterol by 21-29% and raised HDL cholesterol by 8-15%.
Vitamin C (C-1000) is an antioxidant clinically associated with increased HDL and HDL-2 cholesterol levels. Vitamin C also reduces arterial stiffness and inhibits platelet aggregation - two factors known to promote atherosclerosis.
Vitamin E complex are powerful antioxidants which protect against the formation of atherosclerotic plaques and reduce total cholesterol levels.
N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) ) boosts levels of glutathione, one of the body's most powerful cellular antioxidants and increases good cholesterol levels.
Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a powerful universal antioxidant and vital cofactor necessary for the production of cellular energy. ALA recycles other antioxidants such as vitamins C, vitamin E, CoQ10 and glutathione. ALA helps control cholesterol and high blood pressure levels. ALA maintains healthy blood flow and heart contraction.
Garlic is a powerful antioxidant. It is traditionally used to reduce both cholesterol and blood pressure levels. It also raises good cholesterol levels, particularly HDL-2 cholesterol. It inhibits LDL oxidation and platelet aggregation.
An effective combination is now available to boost HDL, particularly the HDL-2 sub-fraction.
Introducing HDL Rx
HDL Rx is an all-inclusive formula combining essential vitamins and minerals, at levels recommended by the American Heart Association, with key amino acids, powerful antioxidants and traditional herbal extracts to provide superior support for cardiovascular health. A 6 months clinical study at Scripps Memorial Hospital (La Jolla, CA) has shown that HDL Rx increase HDL levels up to 23%, increase HDL-2 (the best cholesterol) 50% and decrease triglycerides level by 30 -40%. HDL Rx also has been shown to reduce homocysteine and CRP levels and support healthy blood circulation.
The combination of HDL Rx, Omega-3 fatty acids (Omega 3) and Cardio-Edge will boost your HDL-Cholesterol level and lower your LDL-Cholesterol level safely. This regimen will provide much greater protection against heart attack and other vascular accidents.
