About Stinging Nettles

Dr. Andrew Weil once said about Stinging Nettles (Urtica dioica): "By far the best remedy I know for hay fever". Take one to two capsules of stinging nettles every two to four hours as needed. Despite the name, stinging nettles are completely nontoxic and spectacularly effective in controlling summer pollen allergies.

Stinging nettle has been appreciated for its unique advantages since ancient times and is one of the most widely used herbs throughout Europe. Stinging Nettles grow around the world and are rich in a wide array of nutrients. Recent clinical studies reveal Stinging Nettles may be useful in supporting upper respiratory health.

The use of nettle root for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia has not been as well studied as saw palmetto, but the evidence is convincing.

Warning: Keep out of the reach of children.

Scientific Studies

Nettle leaf has recently become a popular treatment for allergies (hay fever) based on one preliminary study at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland.

A preliminary double-blind placebo-controlled study following 69 individuals suggests that freeze-dried nettle leaf improve allergy symptoms.2

One small double-blind study suggests that direct application of stinging nettle leaf to a painful joint may improve symptoms.3

Combined use of nettle root and Pygeun on treating benign prostatic hyperplasia has not been as well studied as saw palmetto, but the evidence is convincing. 4,5
