About Fiber-Plex

Fiher-Plex was formulated to take advantage of all of the physiological benefits of fiber by combining a wide variety of insoluble, non-fermentable and soluble, fermentable natural fiber sources including Glucomannan, Carrot Root, Celery Stalk and leaves, Citrus Pectin and Apple Pectin,. These dietary fibers, when hydrated, contribute substantially to the volume of stomach contents and help provide a feeling of fullness. Helps you manage your diet and feel fuller longer.. Free of cereal grains and bran for maximum tolerance. This unique mix of natural food fiber sources is ideal for anyone who wants to ensure adequate dietary fiber intake. Helps maintain proper bowel regularity, accelerate stool transit time, and cleanse the gastrointestinal tract.

Dietary fiber has many nutritional benefits for the health of the gastrointestinal tract. Insoluble dietary fiber, such as cellulose and many hemicelluloses, are not efficiently fermented in the colon. As a result, they provide fecal bulk, bind water, and help soften stools. Soluble dietary fiber such as pectin, many gums, and some hemicelluloses, are fermented in the colon to varying degrees. This results in lower colonic pH (acidity) and the production of short chain fatty acids, which are important for the intestinal microflora and the health of the mucosal cells. Short chain fatty acids also have a role in facilitating colonic water absorption. Many insoluble and soluble fiber types bind dietary cholesterol and bile acids in the intestine, and therefore play an important nutritional role in the enterohepatic circulation of cholesterol and cholesterol metabolism in general.

Glucomannan is a partially fermentable, soluble fiber extracted from the konjac root (yam family). This hemicellulose fiber is noted for its high water-binding capacity, and may have a beneficial role in cholesterol metabolism. Carrot root and celery provide a rich array of soluble and insoluble dietary fibers, including cellulose, hemicellulose, pectin and lignin. Sodium alginate is a soluble partially fermentable fiber derived from seaweed. Pectin is a soluble dietary fiber noted for its ability to provide beneficial short chain fatty acids for the colon. Slippery elm powder supplies a number of gums and mucilages that are important for the mucous lining of the gastrointestinal tract.

Glucomannan is effective for reducing total Cholesterol. Glucomannan reduces LDL ("bad") cholesterol and increase HDL ("good") cholesterol. Studies have also found evidence that glucomannan can improve blood sugar control and lower blood pressure.

Side Effect

No adverse side effects have been reported. Each of its ingredients are very well tolerated.

Clinical Studies of Glucomannan

Cholesterol control

In a double-blind study, 63 people were given either 3.9 g per day of glucomannan or placebo for 4 weeks and then switched to the other treatment.4 While taking glucomannan, participants showed significant reductions in total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides, as compared to placebo. In addition, their systolic blood pressure (the upper number in the blood pressure reading) was also reduced. Participants in another study were given either 3 g per day of glucomannan or placebo over an 8-week period.5 The glucomannan group showed improvements in total and HDL cholesterol as well as a reduction in systolic blood pressure. Those taking glucomannan also lost weight, whereas the placebo group gained weight over the length of the trial.

Weight Loss

One double-blind placebo-controlled trial of 20 women who were more than 20% over their ideal weight found glucomannan to be more effective than placebo at promoting weight loss.6 All participants were instructed not to change their eating or exercise habits while on the treatment. Those in the treatment group took 1 g of glucomannan 3 times a day for 8 weeks and lost an average of 5.5 pounds during that period; in comparison, those in the placebo group gained an average of 1.5 pounds, a significant difference.

Constipation and diverticular disease of the colon

Good results have been noted double-blind studies of glucomannan for the treatment of constipation. The use of glucomannan for diverticular disease of the colon has also been studied, about one-third to one-half of the subjects were found to benefit from glucomannan.
