ACNE is the term for blocked pores (blackheads and whiteheads), pimples and deep inflamation known as cysts. Acne is caused by an imbalance in the relationship between oil, dead skin cells and the P-acnes bacteria. Acne afflicts many teens but is not restricted to any age group; adult acne is quite common. The sebacecous (oil) glands make an oily substance called sebum that travels through the pores to the surface where it lubricates the skin. An excess of oil causes the dead skin cells in the lining of the follicle to stick together, forming a plug at the skin's surface that appears as a whitehead or blackhead. The mixture of oil and dead skin cells creates an ideal environment for Propionibacterium (P-acnes bacteria) to flourish. This imbalance in the level of bacteria in the skin causes the body to spring to action sending white blood cells to the site to fight the excess P-acnes. The result is the redness, swelling and inflammation occurs deep within the skin. There is no acne without oil so primary considerations in treating acne are minimizing oil and treating P-acnes bacteria. The goal is to restore homeostatic balance to the skin and achieve a radiant, clear complexion. TREAT acne seriously.

Acne care

Clean the skin regularly with mild soap and water. Treat your hypersensitive and delicate skin on your face with Redness Relief which helps to strengthen fragile skin while reducing the appearance of visible redness. Apply moisturizing sun block with antioxidants (moisturizing organic Sun Protection with Antioxidant Complex SPF 30) 20 minutes before you go outdoors on a cloudy or sunny day. Reapply frequently if you are in and out of the water.

Gentle cleansing of your skin with Glycolic Exfoliating Wash every night. Apply Glycolic Body Lotion to your neck, back and body, it is Moisturizing and exfoliating. If necessary, apply 5% benzoyl peroxide on red inflammed area only. This is an excellent cleansing agent. Natural alternatives to benzoyl peroxide are calendula or tea tree oil. Calendula, commonly known as pot marigold. (It is not a true marigold) is a good herbal treatment for the skin. Tea tree oil gel has antibacterial properties.

Rosacea is a relatively common skin disorder in adults in which the nose and cheeks are reddened and covered with pimples. About 13 million adults in the US are afflicted with rosacea. Rosacea (also called acne rosacea) is a skin condition that causes the superficial capillaries of the face to dilate, flushing the skin with blood. As the condition progresses, it may be accompanied by a rash of acne-like bumps.
